Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has been reviewed positively on Steam, despite review-bombers attempting to get the game some negative buzz. Now that a good number of Steam users can’t play the game, they tried review-bombing the title to combat PlayStation’s anti-consumer actions, but to no avail.
Forbes reports that Steam users attempted to flood the former PlayStation exclusive with negative reviews, as numerous PC players can’t even attempt to purchase the game anymore. The reviews don’t even bring up how this game performs or plays, as most of the fan anger is rightfully directed at Sony and PlayStation.
Developer Sucker Punch previously said that it was only the Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer that needed PSN integration, so anyone could play the single-player campaign. Unfortunately, Sony really wants players to link up to their sanctioned accounts, now removing access to the beloved open-world title for many.
Sony and PlayStation had already drawn the ire of overseas PC users when they ripped Helldivers 2 away from fans who purchased it with their own money. Even though Sony took back the required PSN integration, the company is sticking to restricting this game to the dozen or so countries that can still play this shooter.
This decision directly comes from Sony, as Valve has stated that they had nothing to do with pulling Ghost of Tsushima from over 170 countries. Arrowhead Game Studios had actually contacted Sony and Valve about relisting Helldivers 2 to other countries, since some players spent hundreds of hours in that game.
If Sony and PlayStation continue to go in this direction with their other PC games, fans will complain but it seems they won’t be a major factor. Considering how God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are likely to get ported, it will be disappointing to see 170 countries not play them if they have these restrictions. Unless Sony changes their mind, it looks like millions of gamers won’t be able to play these fantastic titles.
Despite all of this, Ghost of Tsushima has mostly positive reviews on Steam, as players with access to the game are enjoying the gameplay and story. It’s a great game that the developers put a lot of passion into, so it’s a shame 170 countries can’t play the open-world title.
